Indian law firm Phoenix Legal has bolstered its corporate, insolvency and restructuring, and banking and finance practice groups with the addition of partners Piyush Mishra (L), Rohit Sharma, and Shivani Sinha from Luthra and Luthra Law Offices.

Based in Mumbai, Mishra joins as Phoenix Legal’s national head of bankruptcy and restructuring. Mishra has two decades of experience in the distressed assets space including restructuring and insolvency, enforcement of security and acquisition of such assets.

His clients have included lenders including State Bank of India and HDFC Bank Limited, resolution professionals, bidders and distressed debt funds in pre-IBC resolutions, corporation insolvency and liquidations.

Before joining Luthra in 2021, Mishra was a partner at AZB & Partners and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, and an associate at Allen & Overy’s London office.

Also based in Mumbai, Rohit Sharma joins Phoenix’s banking and finance practice after less than a year at Luthra. Sharma has close to two decades of experience in cross-border and domestic dealmaking, finance, securitisation and debt capital markets.

Shivani Sinha joins the firm’s Delhi office after a two-year stint as a partner at Luthra. Like Mishra, she specializes in finance, restructuring and insolvency. Sinha has extensive experience in distressed assets, and has acted for lenders, resolution professionals, and bidders.

Phoenix Legal’s hires come on the back of the departure of leading banking and finance partner Aditya Bhargava to Trilegal in July.

Luthra recently lost a capital markets team led by Geeta Dhania to Economic Laws Practice and corporate partner Jay Parikh to Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. But the firm has also been growing geographically, entering the Chennai market with a new office, absorbing a disputes boutique in Bengaluru and expanding in Hyderabad.
