Indian law firm Dhaval Vussonji & Associates has expanded into the fast-growing Pune market with the launch of an office in the city that will be led by newly appointed partner Shakti Singh Champawat.

Champawat was previously the legal head of real estate developer Solitaire Group. Prior to moving in-house in 2018, he was an associate partner at Desai & Diwanji.

With 17 years of experience in real estate transactions, Champawat specialises in acquisitions, development, divestments, leasing, and financing. He has particular expertise in structured land acquisitions, joint ventures, asset divestments, multinational leasing, property transactions, and extensive land due diligence across India. Additionally, he handles litigation and dispute resolution with a keen focus on disputes under the IBC and has successfully advised clients in diverse legal forums.

Dhaval Vussonji, which now has six partners operating out of four cities, has strong real estate, banking and finance, and insolvency practices, and has identified Pune as a key growth market in the coming years. The Maharashtra city is growing as an IT and manufacturing hub, especially for the automotive sector.

“Pune’s real estate market is thriving, with immense potential in residential, commercial, and industrial developments. With the firm’s strong reputation and commitment to excellence, I look forward to strengthening the firm’s footprint in one of India’s fastest-growing real estate markets,” Champawat said in a statement.

Khaitan & Co also launched a presence in the city at the beginning of 2024.
