Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co has advised Canadian asset management firm Brookfield on its $200 million acquisition of a majority stake in Tamil Nadu-based renewables platform Leap Green Energy (LGE), which was represented by AZB & Partners.

Additionally, Brookfield has an option to infuse a further $350 million of incremental equity capital to support the future growth of the business.

Brookfield has been upping its India investment of late and utilising a number of law firms to guide its deals. In January, S&R Associates guided the Brookfield-backed Data Infrastructure Trust on its 100 percent acquisition of American Tower Corp’s India operations for $2.5 billion.

In May, Khaitan & Co and SAM advised Brookfield India Real Estate Trust on its acquisition of a 50 percent stake in Rostrum Realty from Bharti Enterprises for 60 billion rupees ($719 million).

SAM’s transaction team was led by partners Karun Prakash and Nirmal Mahtani, and included principal associate Tanay Khanna and associates Bhavna Hemrajani and Ruthvik Tumuluri.

The due diligence team included partners V R Neelakantan, Mrinal Sharma, Kriti Kaushik, Mrinal Kumar, Aarthi Lakshminarayanan, and Shrutikirti Kumar; principal associates Tanay Khanna, Charu Mehrish, Lipsa Acharyya, C M Paramaguru, Suryansh Gupta, and Siddharth Jain; senior associates Indira Shanker Reddy and Ayush Sharma, and associates Bhavna Hemrajani, Simran Khullar, Sukoon Dinodia, Madhvi Vangani, and Saharssh K S.

Partners Aparna Mehra and Kshitij Sharma (competition), Devesh Pandey (regulatory), Alina Arora and Apurva Zutshi (ABAC), and Shailja Lal (insurance) also assisted on the deal.

AZB’s deal team comprised senior partners Anil Kasturi and Niladri Maulik, partner Anshuman Vikram Singh, senior associates Guncha Dhiman and Anisha Dash, and associate Samarth Shandilya.

They were supported on vendor due diligence by senior partner Anuja Tiwari, partner Mallika Anand, senior associates Srishti Moitra and Pranjal Bhattacharya, and associates Aditya Goyal, Munmun Kadam and Siddhanth Mitra.
