Indian law firm Trilegal has continued to bolster its ranks, adding real estate specialist Monika Bhonsale as a partner in Mumbai from AZB & Partners.

Bhonsale is Trilegal's 15th lateral partner hire this year, and comes in two weeks after the addition of corporate governance expert Sampath Rajagopalan, who returned to the firm from EY in Delhi.

With close to 20 years of experience, Bhonsale advises clients, including corporations and private equity funds, on various aspects of Indian real estate transactions and matters in allied sectors such as M&A, leasing, licensing and joint development. She became a partner at AZB in 2017.

Bhonsale's move is the latest example of how Indian law firms are beefing up their real estate offerings. Six real estate lawyers in the southern city of Bengaluru joined AZB & Partners from J Sagar Associates in October, led by partner Malini Raju, while in August, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas recruited AZB's real estate head Rohit Bajaj as a partner in New Delhi.

"Monika's impressive track record of advising both domestic and international clients on complex Indian real estate transactions makes her a valuable addition to our real estate team in Mumbai," said Trilegal partners Sai Krishna Bharathan and Kunaal Shah in a statement. Her joining will also help the firm address the growing demand from clients in this sector, which is seeing a significant amount of deal activity."

This addition has brought Trilegal's partnership strength to 115.
