Welcome to the ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2014
The ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2014 will be held at the Fullerton Hotel, Singapore, on Thursday May 29, 2014 to recognise the excellence and outstanding achievements of SE Asia's leading law firms, in-house legal teams and the top deals and dealmakers of 2013.
The event attracts more than 300 of SE Asia's most influential solicitors, in-house counsel, investment bankers, CEOs and members of the judiciary, who assemble to celebrate with the winners as they accept their awards on stage. The event is the culmination of months of intensive research that precede this important event.
Winner information remains confidential until the awards ceremony itself, where winners will be revealed over a black-tie gala dinner.
The ALB SE Asia Law Awards is one of the most important events on the legal industry calendar in 2014.

Tara Joseph
Editor-in-Charge, Reuters TV, Asia
A journalist with more than 20 years financial reporting experience, Tara Joseph currently leads the financial multimedia unit, Reuters TV in Asia. She serves on Reuters Asia news leadership team.
Tara has more than 10 years experience reporting and presenting for TV in Asia, including daily shows for BBC World and China’s CCTV. She has moderated numerous webcasts and panel events including shows hosted at the World Economic Forum in Davos. She was previously the editor and main presenter of Reuters Financial Television based in London. Tara started in journalism as an emerging markets correspondent covering stories in Russia, South Africa and Turkey. She now oversees video production of video packages, and interviews with staff across Asia.
Tara is a graduate of the Columbia University School of Journalism, and Smith College in the United States. She is President of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Hong Kong .

In celebration of its decade-long celeration of the achievements of SE Asia’s law firms and corporate legal departments, ALB invites you to nominate your own law firm or in-house team or the law firm or in-house team you have worked with, across any of the 37 categories falling under three main award categories:
- Deals Awards;
- In-house Awards; and
- Firm Awards.

Judges
Methodology
GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. All nominations must be written in the ALB nomination form. The same must be submitted on or before 17 April 2014.
2. Work includes any transactions/deals/projects completed, cases handled, disputes settled and other legal services provided within the organisation or otherwise.
3. Entries to any category must have been completed or provided in 2013.
4. Documents supplementary to the information provided in the nomination form may be submitted within the nomination period. No supplementary information will be accepted after the nomination deadline.
5. Clients or contact persons provided in the nomination form will be contacted by ALB, as may be necessary, without prior notice to the nominating organization. It is advisable that only the names of clients whose consent for this purpose has been obtained are listed in the nomination form.
COMPOSITION OF JUDGING PANEL
The judging panel consists of the general panel and the special expertise panel. It is composed of approximately 40 reputable members from the legal academe, in-house teams, law firms, legal associations or business leagues, whose identities are kept confidential prior to the awarding ceremony.
JUDGING PROCESS
The panel of judges is given one week to evaluate the accomplishments of nominees based on a research summary provided by ALB. The judges select the top three finalists for every category. A score allocated by a judge to a finalist with which or with whom he has an apparent conflict of interest is considered void.
The scores given by judges to finalists are aggregated. The finalist in every category who obtains the highest score wins.

Specific Guidelines
1. To qualify for deal categories 1-6, a deal must have significant SE Asian element. "SE Asian element" would mean any of the following:
• The law firm must be based in SE Asia.
• Any of the parties involved in the deal must be based in SE Asia.
• The contract/deal was executed/signed in SE Asia.
• The contract/deal must be related to SE Asia.
2. To qualify for deal category 7, a deal must have significant Singaporean element. "Singaporean element" would mean any of the following:
• The law firm must be based in Singapore.
• Any of the parties involved in the deal must be based in Singapore.
• The contract/deal was executed/signed in Singapore.
• The contract/deal must be related to Singapore.
3. Every deal must have a financial value of at least US$300 million.
4. A nominating organisation may submit up to two deals in every category.
5. The winner of any deal categories automatically becomes a finalist for the SE Asia Deal of the Year, and the finalist obtaining the highest score wins.
Criteria
1. Deal size – the volume of the deal in USD
2. Complexity - the degree to which the work requires intricate legal principles or advanced techniques and structures
3. Innovation/improvement - the degree to which the work involved original or improved techniques and structures or innovative legal rules or regulations
4. Breadth - the degree to which the work spanned different jurisdictions, practice areas, parties and industries
5. Impact/significance - the degree by which the stakeholders/bench and bar/community at large is affected
6. Third-party award(s)/recognition

Specific Guidelines
1. All law firms based in SE Asia are qualified for any firm categories, unless otherwise specified below:
a) Indonesia Deal Firm of the Year;
b) Malaysia Law Firm of the Year;
c) Philippines Law Firm of the Year;
d) Singapore Deal Firm of the Year;
e) Thailand Deal Firm of the Year;
f) Vietnam Deal Firm of the Year; and
g) International Deal Firm of the Year.
2. International Deal Firm of the Year is open only to international law firms with physical office in Singapore, which firms employ at least 20 lawyers and have completed at least 10 cross-border transactions, each with a minimum deal size of USD200 million.
3. Law firms located in India are qualified only for India Law Firm of the Year.
4. A law firm can nominate only one of its managing partners for Managing Partner of the Year. A third-party nomination is considered only when the third-party nominee's firm has not nominated for the category.
5. The winner of any firm categories automatically becomes a finalist for the SE Asia Law Firm of the Year, and the finalist obtaining the highest score wins.

7. No. of transactions completed (applicable only to firm categories 16 and 19)
