Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker

Wesley Wong, SC, Solicitor General, Department of Justice, Hong Kong

Wesley Wong read law at the University of Hong Kong and was called to the local bar in 1993. He spends his entire legal career at the Department of Justice, having been posted to different parts of it and undertaking both civil as well as criminal work before the courts or otherwise. The promotion of Hong Kong as a leading international legal and dispute resolution centre comes under the portfolio of the Department’s Legal Policy Division which Mr Wong heads, since September 2015, as Solicitor General.

He has been an accredited mediator since 2009 and was appointed Senior Counsel by the Chief Justice in 2013.

Stephanie Sheng, Executive Director and Senior Counsel, Goldman Sachs

Stephanie Sheng is Executive Director and Senior Counsel at Goldman Sachs (Asia) in the Business Intelligence Group, advising the Asia Pacific investment banking, merchant banking and securities divisions on anti-bribery, anti-money laundering and economic sanctions regulations across a range of corporate transactions, as well as being responsible for internal investigations in the region.  Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Sheng was counsel at O’Melveny & Myers LLP and practiced in Silicon Valley, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Sheng received the C-5 Group’s Compliance Officer of the Year Award for 2017 in London, and is Chair of Women in Law Hong Kong, a legal umbrella network supporting the growth and development of women in the legal community through mentoring programs, agile working solutions, pro bono opportunities and networking events.  

Yea Ji Sohn, Senior Counsel, APAC, Uber Technologies

Yea Ji is a Senior Counsel in the APAC legal team of Uber Technologies. In her role, she covers a broad range of subject matter - from the everyday corporate & commercial to the complex & cutting-edge! Prior to joining Uber Technologies in January, 2017, Yea Ji was an M&A lawyer for seven years, most recently in the Hong Kong office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. She is a committee member of Women in Law Hong Kong.

Stephen Wong, Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong

Mr Stephen Wong joined the Attorney General’s Chambers of the Hong Kong Government as a Crown Counsel in 1986. He was seconded to the UN Human Rights Committee based in Geneva and he became the Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions in 1992. Mr Wong later assumed the offices of Deputy Solicitor-General and Secretary of the Hong Kong Law Reform Commission, responsible for human rights, cross-boundary legal affairs, Basic Law, law reform and legal policies. His fields of expertise also include commercial law, arbitration law, intellectual property and criminal law. 

Mr Wong was appointed as the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data of Hong Kong in August 2015.

 

Oliver Massmann, PartnerDuane Morris Vietnam LLC

Oliver Massmann is an International Attorney at Law and a Financial Accountant and Auditor.

Oliver Massmann is the General Director of Duane Morris Vietnam LLC and has more than 20 years of experience working as a commercial lawyer in Vietnam and 5 years in Myanmar. Mr. Massmann is registered Arbitrator of the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (The VIAC). He is the only foreign lawyer in Vietnam who is presenting to the National Assembly of Vietnam in Vietnamese language and teaching International law in Vietnamese language at the Ministry of Justice in Hanoi. Mr. Massmann is Board Member and Chairman of the Legal Sector Committee of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, Board Member of German Business Association (GBA), Adjunct Professor at the FOREIGN TRADE UNIVERSITY of Vietnam and the only foreign lawyer as Member to the Supervisory Board of PetroVietnam Insurance Corporation, Vietnam's largest industrial insurer. 

He has been awarded "Leading Lawyer" in Mergers and Acquisitions in Vietnam by LEGAL 500 for the last four years in a row. He practices in the area of corporate international taxation and on power/water projects, matters related to oil and gas companies and telecoms, privatization and equitization, mergers and acquisitions, and general commercial matters for multinational clients in relation to investment and doing business in Vietnam and Myanmar. He is currently working on several investment projects as well as taxation matters and advising the Ministry of Electrical Power on building the power generation infrastructure in Myanmar.

 

Jose Martin R. Tensuan, Partner, ACCRALAW

Mr. Jose Martin R. Tensuan became a Partner in the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices (“ACCRALAW”) in 2007 and is the current Monitor of its Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. 

He handles a diverse array of litigation cases involving constitutional, class action, civil, criminal, commercial, contractual, corporate rehabilitation and insolvency, environmental as well as zoning, planning & land use issues. He represents the country’s biggest telecommunications company, top oil companies, multinational banks and financial institutions, tollway developer and operator, and the largest Philippine domestic pharmaceutical company.   

Mr. Tensuan has represented clients in proxy fights and has successfully prevented hostile take-overs of clients in the telecommunications, infrastructure and banking industries. He has assisted in negotiating and drafting various major agreements pertaining to Stage 2 of the country’s lone elevated expressway, the Skyway Project. Mr. Tensuan has likewise strategized, structured and drafted contracts in relation to commercial arrangements for the successful out-of-court resolution of disputes.

Mr. Tensuan has extensive experience in handling disputes before the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission (“CIAC”), such as those involving the country’s premiere airport terminal, major expressways and other vertical and horizontal developments. He is also an advocate in international and domestic commercial arbitration cases before the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc., as well as a trained arbitrator of the latter. 

Mr. Tensuan has been appointed as an arbitrator in an ongoing dispute involving well known maritime and shipping companies. He has been active in several legal and professional organizations, including the PDCRI, ASEAN Law Association, Philippine Bar Association, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila Law School Alumni Association, Inc.  

 

 

Jose Eduardo T. Genilo, Partner, ACCRALAW

Mr. Genilo is a partner in the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices or ACCRA Law and is part of its Intellectual Property Department. He is involved in various aspects of Intellectual Property (IP) law such as registration, enforcement and licensing. With his experience in drafting patent specifications and claims, he has a unique perspective when enforcing patent rights through Civil Search Warrants and litigation.

Apart from patent rights enforcement and litigation, Mr. Genilo has also assisted clients in copyright and trademark registrations, as well as enforcing or defending such IP rights through Criminal or Civil Search Warrants and Criminal, Civil, and Administrative litigation. Mr. Genilo has also handled cases on labor and employment, as well as cases and issues involving cyber law.

Mr. Genilo obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2006. He completed his degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas in 2002. Mr. Genilo has also completed the Advanced Course for Patent Experts in Japan. He is among the top passers of the 2007 Patent Agent Qualifying Examination (PAQE) administered by the Philippine Intellectual Property Office (IPO) together with the assistance of the European Patent Office (EPO). 

Mr. Genilo has spoken in several IPO sponsored lectures, and acted as a resource person in the Philippine Judges Association’s Patent Law Training for Judges in 2008. He has lectured on Patent Drafting and Freedom to Operate for the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). He has also been a resource person for various studies conducted by the Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property of Japan, commissioned by the Japan Patent Office (JPO).

 

Joshua Cole, Managing Partner, Ashurst Hong Kong

Joshua is a partner in Ashurst's corporate department and is the managing partner of our Hong Kong office. He specialises in cross-border mergers & acquisitions and joint ventures in the Asia region.

Drew Macaulay, Managing Director, Consilio

Drew is a Managing Director of Consilio, a global leader in eDiscovery, document review and legal consulting services. He advises European clients on the technical and workflow aspects of large scale regulatory and internal investigations and litigation disclosure exercises. Drew has management responsibility for Consilio's staff and offices in Western Europe.

Drew has worked in the eDisclosure/eDiscovery industry for more than ten years. He has particular expertise in the management of data collection and processing, complex multilingual searching and document review for cartel investigations, regulatory enquiries involving the financial services sector and IP litigation and arbitration. In addition, Drew frequently advises international law firms and corporate clients on the practical application of technology and managed document review in multi-jurisdictional matters to aid compliance with the relevant privacy legislation and procedural rules.

Patricia Woodbury, Managing Director, Risk & Investigations, FTI Consulting 

Patricia Woodbury is a Managing Director in the Risk & Investigations practice at FTI Consulting and is based in Hong Kong. Pat has more than 30 years of experience gained through consulting and at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (“PCAOB”), the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), in corporate financial management and public accounting. She provides expert, advisory consulting and investigative services related to technical accounting, auditing, financial reporting, professional responsibility, FCPA and other SEC related issues.

Pat holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan.  She is a Certified Fraud Examiner, a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of American Institute Certified Public Accountants.

 

 

Sean Lam, Managing Director, Risk & Investigations, FTI Consulting 

Sean Lam is a Managing Director in the Risk & Investigations practice at FTI Consulting, and is based in Hong Kong. Sean has more than 10 years of experience in forensic accounting, fraud investigation, dispute resolution and litigation support, and corporate advisory. Sean has significant experience in a range of high-stakes, cross-jurisdiction projects covering international arbitration, commercial litigation, asset valuation, corporate investigation, fund tracing analysis, and investigation of white collar crime.

Sean holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Western Australia. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner,a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of CPA Australia.

 

 

Dr Christopher Boog, FCIArb, Partner, Schellenberg Wittmer

Christopher Boog is a Partner and Vice-Chair of Schellenberg Wittmer's International Arbitration Group based in Singapore and Zurich. He represents individuals, corporations and sovereign states in commercial, investment and sports arbitrations mainly in the construction, energy, mining, commodities, pharmaceutical and automotive sectors. He also regularly sits as arbitrator.

Christopher is recognized for his arbitration and construction work in leading directories. He was named one of 33 global "Thought Leaders" in Who's Who Legal's Thought Leaders Arbitration 2017 ranking and is ranked as one of the top 4 "Most Highly Regarded Individuals" in the world in Who's Who Legal's Future Leaders Arbitration ranking. Nina Packman, Commercial Product Manager, LexisNexis Hong Kong

Nina Packman, BA (Hons), Grad LLB (Hons), is a Commercial Product Manager for LexisNexis Hong Kong, focused on practical content. Prior to transferring to the Hong Kong business she worked for LexisNexis UK as a Content Developer, managing the family, employment and corporate crime portfolios. She has also spent time as a product trainer, working with a range of clients including large corporates to better understand their information and research needs. Before joining LexisNexis, Nina practised as a Barrister in the UK, focusing mainly on criminal prosecution, but also covering some defence, civil and family work.

Ludwig is a solicitor advocate with Higher Rights of Audience. His major area of practice is insolvency and corporate disputes. Ben Wootliff is Head of Control Risks Cyber Security practice in Asia. In addition to managing cyber security projects for clients, and developing methodologies and product offerings, Ben leads the cyber security strategy for Control Risks in Asia. 

Prior to this Ben was the General Manager of Control Risks Hong Kong where he had oversight of a range of investigative, crisis and security management, and political risk projects. He has also managed corporate investigations teams in Europe and Asia, including managing the corporate investigations business in Greater China and North Asia. 

Prior to moving to Asia, Ben managed Control Risks’ corporate investigations financial services practice in London, which was responsible for the company’s relations with investment banks, private equity firms and asset managers. Ben’s opinions on cyber security, as well investment risks, corruption and compliance are regularly cited in the financial media. 

Before joining Control Risks he was a journalist specialising in business and finance. He has worked for numerous publications including Bloomberg News, Institutional Investor, Financial News, the Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Business. He has also been published in numerous other publications including the Sunday Times and Observer. He graduated from the University of Birmingham with a bachelor’s degree in modern history and political science.

 

Winnie Yeung, Assistant General Counsel, Corporate, External and Legal Affairs, Microsoft

As the assistant General Counsel, Corporate, External and Legal Affairs, Winnie Yeung is responsible for all government, industry and community affairs activities as well as legal work at Microsoft Hong Kong. Yeung plays a leading role at the Company on intellectual property, corporate compliance, privacy and other Internet legal and public policy issues. She also oversees the strategy development and delivery of the Company’s citizenship initiative.

Yeung has extensive experience in the IT and media/entertainment industries. Before joining Microsoft®, she was in private practice in Hong Kong, specializing in IT licensing, Intellectual Property Rights protection and enforcement. Prior to taking up her current position, she also acted as the regional LCA lead for Microsoft’s Xbox® team in Asia.

Yeung has expanded her role as Assistant General Counsel to lead the Commercial Legal team in China LCA since 2012. Her team provides legal support to consumer, corporate and online business groups in China. Yeung graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong. She is accredited as a solicitor in Hong Kong and England and Wales. She also holds an MBA from the University of Toronto.

 

Anna Gamvros, Partner, Norton Rose Fulbright

Anna is a technology and innovation lawyer based in Hong Kong, and is the Co-Head of the technology and innovation practice for Asia. She advises clients on technology agreements, outsourcing, privacy, cybersecurity, telecommunications and Internet regulatory issues across all industry sectors.

She has been in Hong Kong for over 15 years and has assisted clients with Hong Kong and China based projects, as well as having a wealth of experience in global and regional multi-jurisdictional projects, particularly in implementing e-commerce and data management projects in Asia. She is admitted as a solicitor in Queensland, Australia and Hong Kong.

 

Juliet Lui, Head of Professional Services (APAC), The Red Flag Group

Juliet is the Head of Professional Services Asia Pacific of The Red Flag Group. She is an experienced anti-corruption and compliance lawyer who is responsible for all Professional Services engagements in the Asia Pacific region. She acts as an Advisor to clients on the US FCPA, jurisdiction-specific anti-bribery legislation, competition law, human trafficking prevention and regulatory risks.

Juliet has assessed, designed, implemented and managed compliance programmes for global multinational corporations across a wide range of industries. Juliet has in-depth experience and knowledge across the extractives, logistics, medical technology and IT industries. She has led challenging onsite compliance assessments and investigations onsite in emerging markets including the UAE, Mongolia, Indonesia and China. She has also been the leader of compliance reviews done in Ecuador, Israel, Korea and China. Juliet is an experienced public speaker and has facilitated training in both English and Cantonese onsite at local client offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Japan, Korea, London, Germany and the US.

Clients appreciate her practical and business-focused advice and her ability to prioritise compliance efforts. 

 

Nick Malhotra, Director Compliance Asia Pacific, Philip Morris International

Nick is the Asia head of compliance for Philip Morris International and is based in Hong Kong.  He joined Philip Morris International in 2005 as an Assistant General Counsel in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he advised the company on commercial, regulatory and intellectual property matters.  Prior to joining Philip Morris International, Nick was an attorney with Arnold & Porter in Washington, DC, where he specialized in litigation, product liability law and corporate governance.  Nick received his BA from Brown University, MA from Harvard University and JD from Columbia Law School.  He is admitted to the District of Columbia, Massachusetts and Rhode Island Bars.


Maaike van Meer, Chief Legal & Compliance Officer, AXA Insurance Hong Kong 

Maaike leads the Legal, Compliance and Corporate Secretary functions for AXA. She is a lawyer with extensive Financial Services industry experience, who practiced in The Netherlands, London and Hong Kong, initially as partner in a private firm, specialized in Banking and Corporate Law and who continued her career as General Counsel for ING Investment Management Global and Asia, as Regional Legal Counsel for Mercer Investments and as Chief Legal & Compliance Officer for AXA Insurance Hong Kong.

Maaike enjoys working beyond traditional “Legal & Compliance” functions by sponsoring/executing regulatory programs, reorganizations and divestment readiness programs. She also actively participates in company, industry and community D&I initiatives, and is currently Chairman of the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. 

 

Kevin Brocklehurst, Head of Legal & Governance, Group Investments, AIA

In his current role, Kevin is responsible for legal support, governance and first line controls and monitoring across AIA’s investment management platform. AIA is the largest independent publicly listed pan-Asian life insurance group – with a presence in 18 markets across the Asia-Pacific region.

Kevin is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong and as a barrister and solicitor in the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario in Canada. Prior to joining AIA in February 2009, Kevin held roles in Hong Kong with Allianz Global Investors and Fidelity International.  Prior to moving in-house, Kevin was an associate with the law firm Johnson, Stokes & Master in Hong Kong. Kevin has a B.A. from Queen’s University, Canada and a LL.B from Osgood Hall Law School, York University, Canada.

 

Beverly Chau, Asia Pacific Legal Counsel, L’Oréal

Beverly is Asia Pacific Legal Counsel, L’Oréal, a global cosmetic giant with 100+ years’ history, over Euro 25 billion sales and 78,000 employees worldwide as at 2016.  Beverly focused on legal advisory in IT, digital and data protection matters.  Prior to L’Oréal, she was Senior Counsel, Privacy at Uber and Legal Counsel & Company Secretary of SCMP Group, respectively.  Before assuming in-house role, Beverly gained solid practice experience in major law firms including Baker & McKenzie and Norton Rose Fulbright as corporate commercial lawyer.  She graduated from University of London and holds an M.B.A. degree at HEC Paris. Beverly qualified in two jurisdictions (Hong Kong and England and Wales), and speaks four languages (English, Cantonese, Mandarin and French).

 

Simon Leung, Head of AML, China CITIC Bank International

Simon has over 20 years of AML/CFT experience that was attained from the police and banking industry.  He was the officer-in-charge of the Joint Financial Intelligence Unit (JFIU) for 2 years and a qualified AML Law Enforcement Expert who had represented Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering to participate in the IMF-led mutual evaluation assessment on Cook Islands AML Regime in February 2004.  Before joining China CITIC, he was the Regional Head of ML Investigation & Analytic, Asia Pacific, HSBC.  He holds a Master degree of Social Science in Public Policy and Management.  He has been a trainer for Associate AML Professional (AAMLP) since July 2017. 

 

Kevin Wilkey, Head of Legal, Asia, MetLife 

Kevin Wilkey is Head of Legal of MetLife’s Asia region, joining MetLife in January 2013.  He is responsible for legal affairs in Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore and Vietnam.  He sits on the Asia Leadership Group and is a member of MetLife’s global Legal Affairs Senior Leadership Team.   

Prior to joining MetLife, Kevin worked for UBS AG in 2011 as Group General Counsel, Asia Pacific.  He was responsible for UBS’ Asia Pacific Legal and Compliance Department, covering wealth management, investment banking and asset management. He also acted as their Asia Pacific General Counsel for the Wealth Management business in Asia Pacific.  

Before that, Wilkey was based in London with Deutsche Bank AG as Deputy General Counsel for the UK and Western Europe as well as Head of London Global Markets Equities and GFFX Legal Team. He had previously worked for Simpson Thacher & Bartlett as well in New York and Hong Kong. 

  

Kevin Marr, Assistant General Counsel, Global Financial Crimes Legal, JP Morgan Chase 

Kevin Marr is the APAC head of Global Financial Crimes Legal for JPMorgan Chase, where he is responsible for advising on legal issues relating to anti-money laundering, sanctions and anti-bribery/corruption rules throughout the region. Prior to joining JPMorgan Chase, Kevin was a senior lawyer in the Financial Regulation Group of Linklaters in Hong Kong.  Before moving to Asia, Kevin held positions in private practice and government in the United States.

Vivian Chui, Regional AML and Sanctions Advisor, BNP Paribas Hong Kong

Vivian is currently with BNP Paribas Hong Kong as their Regional AML and Sanctions advisor. She is responsible for the AML/Sanctions advisory within the APAC region. Prior to joining BNP, Vivian worked in HSBC's Financial Crime Compliance where she led the Hong Kong Sanctions Advisory team, covering all 4 lines of businesses. 

Before joining HSBC, Vivian worked with Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong where she led the AML/KYC/CDD advisory team. Her last role with Standard Chartered was Deputy AMLCO/MLRO. 

Before embarking on her financial crime compliance career, Vivian practised as a Hong Kong-qualified solicitor where she specialised in business restructuring, distressed asset recovery and insolvency litigation. Vivian is also a qualified mediator with CEDR, HKCIArb and the Law Society of Hong Kong.
