Ratnadeep Roychowdhury, co-head of Nishith Desai Associates’ private equity and sovereign wealth funds group has moved to Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, making him the second NDA practice head to move to CAM in a week.

Sahil Kanuga, the former head of international disputes at tax-focused NDA also joined CAM a few days ago.

Roychowdhury has over 17 years of experience advising investors, promoters, corporates, and funds on corporate transactions and managing high-stakes corporate litigation.

Before joining NDA in 2021, he was the India general counsel for private equity firm Actis. He has also previously been a partner at AZB & Partners.

“I am delighted to welcome Ratnadeep back to the firm as partner. His extensive experience and deep understanding of firm’s culture and client service focus makes him an invaluable addition to our corporate practice," said Cyril Shroff, CAM's managing partner, in a statement.

“We have enjoyed working with Sahil and Ratnadeep over the years and genuinely value their contributions. However, as a part of routine professional uncoupling we have parted amicably and wish them continued success at CAM,” Noopur Desai, member of the leadership group at NDA, told ALB.

Earlier in the year, NDA lost its employment head Vikram Shroff to AZB, while Dhruv Janssen-Sanghavi, co-head of international tax and tax litigation, left to launch his own firm - Janssen-Sanghavi & Associates - International Tax Counsel.

Roychowdhury becomes CAM’s third hire this month already, Kanuga and Arya Tripathy.

CAM’s hiring in the last few months includes M&A partner Mohit Gogia from S&R Associates, Pooranimaa Hariharan and Pranav Sharma from Trilegal, Alok Sonker from Krishnamurthy & Co, Jay Parikh from Luthra and Luthra Law Offices, real estate attorney Siddharth Singh in Ahmedabad, former Embassy Group general counsel Siddharth Vedula, and M&A specialist Himanshu Chahar in its newly launched Abu Dhabi office.

CAM also added a 50-lawyer capital markets team led by Manan Lahoty and employment partner Sowyma Kumar, both from IndusLaw.
