Indian law firm Fox & Mandal has added Shantanu Mitra as a partner to head and build its securities and capital markets practice in Kolkata. Mitra joins from Aadya Law Advisors in Mumbai.

Mitra has close to two decades of experience, including three years at the Securities and Exchange Board of India, and has worked at law firms including Desai & Diwanji and Phoenix Legal.

During his time with SEBI, Mitra was involved in high-profile investigations of securities law violations and fraud, representing SEBI and various market intermediaries before the Supreme Court of India, the Bombay High Court, and the Securities Appellate Tribunal.

His expertise extends to advising on mutual funds, alternative investment funds, insider trading, and fraudulent trade practices. He assists SEBI-registered intermediaries with their compliance needs and has also advised on numerous capital markets transactions, including IPOs, rights issues, and QIPs.

Mitra’s addition “marks a significant milestone for Fox & Mandal as we continue to expand and strengthen our practice areas and we are confident that under his leadership, our securities and capital markets practice will reach new heights… Shantanu brings immense expertise in this area and together, we will develop a strategic roadmap for our expansion in this area,” said Debanjan Mandal, managing partner, and Kunal Vajani, joint managing partner, in a combined statement.

With the addition of Mitra, Fox & Mandal now has a strength of 19 partners.
